I’m not really into sandwiches. I’ll make or eat one if there’s nothing else to bring to work or order from a menu. I prefer simple and plain—just ham and cheese with mayo. I do enjoy a BLT from time to time though. The best sandwich I’ve ever had was at a place called Sarafina’s on the French side of St. Martin. It was like a jambon beurre, but with prosciutto and fresh mozzarella on a baguette instead of ham and butter.

My friend Bria told me about a premade po’ boy from Antone’s that she picked up at HEB and said it was amazing, so I looked into the brand when I came across them on my own at Kroger.
According to the internet – Antone’s is a popular sandwich shop that was founded in Houston, Texas, in 1962. It’s best known for its po’ boys. What started as a small, family-run business quickly gained a loyal following thanks to its flavorful sandwiches made with fresh ingredients and a unique style.
My sister was with me at Kroger, and after I told her how much Bria liked the po’ boy, she decided to grab one to try. She said it was delicious, so she went back to the store and picked up another one to take to work the next day.
Is it really that good? I got curious and decided to try one myself. I went with the Super Original, which has ham, provolone, salami, mayo, dill pickles, and chow chow. They also have other po’ boys like The Piggy (ham salad), turkey and Swiss, premium roast beef, tuna, and the original (which I’m guessing is a smaller version of the Super Original).
The bread was a little soggy, which makes sense since the po’ boy is premade and kept refrigerated. But honestly, it wasn’t too bad. I’m not a fan of pickles in my sandwiches or burgers, but I kept them in to try it as it was made.
I really enjoyed the chow chow in it, and overall, it was pretty good. My favorite sandwich is still the one from Sarafina’s, but this one definitely wasn’t bad. I think I’ll try The Piggy next. It has ham salad, which is chopped-up ham and salami, along with pickles and pepper jack cheese. Is ham salad anything like deviled ham?
Have you heard of Antone’s? Have you ever tried their po’ boys?
